Have You Thanked A Trail Maintainer Today

Day 97 Wednesday June 28 Miles: 1030.0 - 1043.1 completed: 13.1 Time: 7:50am - 4:15pm Weather: Tenting at Dahlgren Backpacker Campground

Today I give the trail maintainers, ridge runners, and rangers a shout out. It's a thankless job but without them we would have no trails to hike on.

It's hard enough for them to do what they need to do and they still have time to get creative.

At lunch yesterday with James he was telling us all the stuff ridge runners have to do. They just don't walk up and down on the trail teaching us about best practices. One of their jobs is to knock the cone down in the privies and fish out anything that doesn't belong. They wouldn't have to do such a disgusting job if hikers weren't lazy. Please think about that next time you use a privy while out in the back country. If you pack it in, pack it out. Wow, hats off to them!

This bunch of young hikers was out on the trail in mass. They belong to Mountain Club of Maryland and many of them are trail maintainers. Whoot whoot!!!

Happy Hiking.
