We got up early to beat the heat. It was a good try. I love mornings so it was no big deal for me. I convinced my hiking gang to hit the trail bright and early which we did for us. Up at 5:00am. The 30 minute drive from the camp ground to the trail head had us on path by 6:45am. By 7:30am I was soaked in sweat. At our first break at 8:45am Shortcake was begging us not to let her start hiking in the mornings with her long sleeve on. All I can say is at least it isn't raining.
Happy 4th of July. Saturday I started wearing my red, white, and blue. I am very patriotic. Sometimes a little over the top. For three days I have been wearing a head band with star antenna, patriotic gaiters, and bandannas on my poles. I am quite festive. Today I added music once in awhile. I started us singing God Bless America and the national anthem. Then finished with iTunes music with Lee Greenwood's God Bless The USA. Love that song. That track I played over several times. It always brings a tear to my eyes each time.
We are showered and resting right now. Waiting to check out a food truck festival and fireworks later. When we head out we will sport our red, white, and blue bling sent to us in a care package by Shortcake's friend Rae.
Tonight we will watch the fireworks by the river's edge. Just waiting for dark now.
Happy Hiking.
