Happy New Year!!!🎊

Day 1 of 30

That’s right I am back to counting the days. I thought I was done doing that with the summit of Katahdin for my Appalachian Trail thru hike. That was 2 months ago. I have decide to take on another challenge. This one will be way more of a struggle for me then any long distance hike.

Since my return from the trail I have continued to suffer from aches, pains, lethargy, and insomnia. I believe most of the culprit to be poor eating choices, garbage in garbage out. Last week a friend mentioned in a Facebook post something about Whole30. I was intrigued and without batting an eye, I decided I would give it a try. I don’t even fully understand what it is other than a very strict healthy way of eating. After I read the “do not eat” list I asked my friend, “What’s left?”  Famished for better health I convinced myself I could do it for 30 days. Once I make up my mind to do something I usually do it. But this requires me to give up my favorite activity, eating. I love food! It doesn’t matter if it’s good food, or bad food, I like it all. Well, not all, I don’t eat fast food.

With ringing in the new year day 1 of the Whole30 food challenge is done and I have made it through the day without cheating. In fact I didn’t eat much at all because I still don’t know what is allowed. This will be a learn as I go. I kind of understand the basics. The idea is to only consume food that are found in their natural state. No added ingredients. At least that’s my novice interpretation. This should be fun. I’ll share what I learn and how I’m doing.

Today’s limited menu consisted of scrambled egg for breakfast and orange juice. Celery, carrots, and 1/2 an orange for lunch. Nuts for a snack. And supper was sautéed shrimp with celery, carrots, garlic, and avocado. In fear of eating something not allowed I chose to eat less. I made it through the day just fine. I hear fasting is good for the body and soul anyways.

I ended the day after work grocery shopping with my very fit and health conscience son, Patch. Tomorrow’s menu should be much more filling.

Along this 30 day escapade into whole food eating I encourage any corrections to what I am doing from those of you who have followed this program. My disclaimer is I do not not intend to promote or advertise for Whole30. I barely know what I’m doing. I just thought it would be a great way to jumpstart my health into 2018.

Here goes to hopefully a healthier me!!!
