Big Announcement

You may have heard already if you saw my social media post, but if not, I wanted to announce it here on my blog also. The big announcement is, this crazy girl is going to hike the Appalachian Trail for a third time.

As I sit here in my cozy home with all the comforts I am blessed with looking out snow dusted windows and landscape, I am wondering if I have what it takes at soon to be sixty years old to tackle another A.T. Adventure.

Bruce and I have been knee -deep in planning and shopping. This past weekend sales came in handy. I will be posting more regularly as I get to know all my new stuff between now and when I leave.

My first cool high-tech new addition to my kit is this innovative keyboard. I am testing driving it right now with this blog.

I want to thank Wormwood from the A.T. Class of 2025 for showing this to me. In 2015 and 2017 I maintained social media and blogs using just my phone and at times it was very diffucult to produce works. This device wieghs 6.5 ounces but that is actually heavy in backpacking terms for an item that would be considered a luxury. I anticipate it will earn and keep it’s spot in my pack. Yes, the gear I choose to take must earn the right to travel with me. Almost 2,200 miles is a long way to carry something of little value.

You are probably wondering why would I want to go poop in the woods for six months. You aren’t alone, friends are already bombarding me with the whys. Just like on my first hike, I didn’t have a solid why other than it was my friend’s idea. The second time probably had the best force as I was driven by wanting my friend to beable to complete her first hike. Now, the best reason I can come up with is, because I can. There is a school of thought if your why isn’t the most important thing in your life at that moment then chances are you may have trouble completing a thru-hike.

While I agree with this in general, it isn’t hard and fast. For me, just simply saying I am going to do something is enough motivation - unless it comes to weightloss - then I faulter. Because that bag of chips looks better at that moment in time than the thought of fitting into that dress. That brings up a second motivator for thru-hiking - to loose weight. Yay.

So, if you are ready for another hike with me, stay tuned. Don’t come with high expectations though, I am far from perfect in anything I do. I love what I do and love sharing my story with whoever lets me into their world. Just relax while I hike the miles, endure the wind, snow, rain, cold, heat, bugs, snakes, and everything else. Reach out if you have any questions. If you like my journey, which I hope you do, please share my site with everyone you know. If you’d like to support me in any way as I hike from George to Maine I welcome all the prayers you can say. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes will not be turned down!

Thanks for following along!

Happy Hiking - Here I go again,

Emily
