Do Small Things With Great Love - Mother Teresa

There once was a man whose home was being flooded by days of rain. The water slowly creeped over the banks of the nearby river. Neighbors came to offer help sand bagging his section in hopes to redirect the overspill. The man refused the help and said, "I will be okay. God will provide."

24 hours later the river was no longer held back by sandbags and made its way over the man's property and up to the front door. Someone came by in a canoe to offer help packing up items to keep them from getting wet and to give him a ride to safety. The man refused the help and said, "I will be okay. God will provide."

Days later and more rain the water reached the second floor of the man's home. A rescuer drove up in a motor boat to an open window where the man was standing offering a way out. Again, the man refused the help and said, "I will be okay. God will provide."

By evening the man was sitting on the roof. A helicopter flew overhead and dropped a rescue line. The man refused the help and said, "I will be okay. God will provide."

Not long after the man was swept away in the current but managed to grab the top of tree. Climbing to the highest branch he looked up to the Heavens and yelled, "God, you said if I trusted you, you would take care of me."

A loving but strong voice from Heaven replied, "My son, I sent you a neighbor, a canoe, a motor boat, and a helicopter. All of which you refused. What else did you want me to do?"

Sometimes the signs are right in front of us and we cannot see them. I have been struggling with a lack of feeling of purpose. I know it's not true but still feel I should be doing something greater. Every day tasks seem so unimportant. I even tried a few different adventures this summer none which I succeeded at except the fact I found out they were not for me.

This week on several different occasions I heard the saying, "Do small things with great love." Sure, I have heard that many times before and just like this week, just took it in then forgot about it, until just now. With in a matter of 10 minutes that saying popped up twice. Once on the radio as I was getting out of the car at home and then in a notebook I opened up looking for something else. "Here's your sign."

I have been searching all spring and summer for something great. But I was missing the point. It isn't what I do that matters, it is how I do it. So here goes to the little things. Make it count, it might be all we have. And that's okay.
